Employers in Wales urged to improve road safety

Date: 1/9/2010

Businesses in Wales are being encouraged to improve road safety ahead of an event organised by Driving for Better Business.

The campaign has the backing of the government and is managed by RoadSafe with the aim of helping organisations to reduce the number of work-related road accidents.

Some 100 companies are expected to attend the conference, which is being held in conjunction with South Wales Police and Professional Driver Services (PDS) on September 29th.

Rebecca Ashton of PDS said: "The event aims to bring together employers, academics and road safety experts to encourage more employers in Wales to address the legal, moral and financial reasons to manage work-related road safety."

Caroline Scurr, director of Driving for Better Business, added many organisations are beginning to realise managing driving in the workplace has positive implications for their staff and business.

According to the campaign, there are some 14,000 road deaths and serious injuries involving people at work every year.
