Energlyn set to receive new train station

Energlyn set to receive new train station

Date: 13/2/2012

Network Rail is planning to build a new train station at Energlyn in Wales, which will provide direct services to Cardiff for the first time in two years.

It will be located between Aber and Llanbradach and work could be complete within two years.

The Welsh government, Caerphilly County Borough Council, Arriva Trains Wales and the South East Wales Transport Alliance are all working on plans for the station, which will include ticket machines, digital information boards, a bicycle storage area and CCTV.

Network Rail believes the change will help to ease congestion on the area's roads.

The firm's Route Managing Director for Wales Mark Langman said: "This proposal is driven by a vision to transform the railway in Wales and, once delivered, will bring a huge benefit for Energlyn."

Earlier this month, the organisation explained the final part of £100 million of funding made available to improve rail stations in England and Wales has now been announced, meaning groups and local authorities can bid for cash.
