A new database system is being launched by the Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA).The system - which is worth 30 million Ethiopian birr (£1 million) - will be introduced over the next few weeks and is part of the organisation's modernisation programme, the Addis Fortune reports.
This programme is made up of 36 separate initiatives, which include the introduction of online project statuses, the standardisation of various communications and greater research and innovation.
Furthermore, the new data warehouse will make it easier to access historical information.
Mulugeta Demisse, Quality Assurance and Inspection Directorate Director at the ERA, said: "The database provides an online databank which will serve as a data warehouse for the easy mining of data in the whole roads sector."
Currently, the ERA has constructed 51,636km of federal and regional roads.
It was established in 1967 and aims to develop road transport directives and standards to support the development of Ethiopia, as well as implement laws.
