Euston station HS2 rebuild plans scrapped

Euston station HS2 rebuild plans scrapped

Date: 19/4/2013

Plans to completely demolish and rebuild North London's Euston station in preparation for the HS2 project have been scrapped.

It has now been decided that changes will be made by improving existing infrastructure rather than constructing a new station, with 11 platforms set to be added in order to accommodate high-speed trains in the future.

The HS2 Ltd company responsible for delivering the first phase of the project announced the updated plans, which it hopes will quell Camden Council's fears that the initiative will have a negative impact on the area around Euston.

HS2 Ltd Chief Alison Munro said: "We have identified an option that delivers great opportunities for the area while minimising the potential effects on local communities in Camden and on passengers."

Ms Munro added that the scheme has the potential to boost Camden's economy and that the new proposals will help stimulate greater commercial investment in the Borough.
