EV charging points on the up in Britain

EV charging points on the up in Britain

Date: 5/3/2012

There has been a significant increase in the number of electric vehicle (EV) charging points in the UK over the past ten months.

This is according to Next Green Car's Zap-Map, which revealed there are now more than 2,000 points in 888 locations up and down the country.

Furthermore, technology has improved and many of these include a 32 amp supply, which takes three to four hours for a full charge, instead of the older 13 amp supply - which takes six to eight hours for a full charge.

Managing Editor of Next Green Car Dr Ben Lane said a well-established network of charging points is essential, especially because of the introduction of the Plug-in Van Grant.

He added that new models of plug-in electric cars and EVs are on the horizon and his website is "delighted that the charging points on Zap-Map have passed the 2,000 milestone."

At the end of last month, Dr Lane claimed public charging points are an extra incentive for individuals and enterprises to adopt electric vehicles, although personal units are generally more popular.
