Plans to improve the London Underground are being publicised at a special exhibition held at Aldwych station. For two weeks, Transforming the Tube will outline the multi-billion pound Transport for London (TfL) scheme.
This includes new trains for the Metropolitan, Circle, District and Hammersmith and City lines, new signalling on the Northern line to increase its capacity and a new fleet for the Victoria Line.
Scheduled for completion in 2018, the programme is expected to bring £36 billion into the economy and increase capacity on the underground by nearly 30 per cent.
London Underground's Managing Director Mike Brown noted some parts of the Tube are more than a century old.
TfL recently revealed ten major stations have signed up for the 10:10 scheme to cut energy use.
Measures taken will include turning off escalators during off-peak hours and switching lights off when they are not needed.
