Expert: Plan your journey before you leave

Date: 20/7/2010
As millions of Britons head to holiday destinations and airports over the summer break, the Highways Agency has urged people to plan their journey before they leave. The organisation has predicted heavy traffic on major motorways and A roads, especially for later this week (July 23rd and July 24th).
It stated information on delays and disruptions will be available on screens at service stations, signs on the carriageways and on its website.
Head of the Highways Agency's National Traffic Control Centre Steve Crosthwaite said a few minutes checking the traffic conditions and weather before setting off can take the hassle out of a journey.
"Our control rooms will be monitoring the traffic, sending out Traffic Officer patrols and passing on any information we have to help families on their way," he added.
Chief Examiner at the Institute of Advanced Motorists Peter Rodgers recently advised British motorists heading abroad to pay attention to the roads, as unfamiliar layouts can cause drivers to grow anxious.
