Experts to discuss impact of spending cuts on road safety

Date: 26/1/2011
How to continue tackling road safety in an effective manner is to be the topic of discussion for experts set to attend an imminent seminar. The conference will be hosted by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) and will look at some of the challenges that may face these professionals in the current economic climate.
It will use evidence-based practice and evaluations to demonstrate some of the best techniques for making the most of a tight budget.
Speakers at the seminar will include Robert Gifford, Executive Director of Pacts - the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety.
Commenting ahead of the event, which will take place on February 15th in Birmingham, Kevin Clinton, RoSPA's Head of Road Safety, said: "Acting on road safety remains a statutory duty for police forces and local authorities and the challenge is therefore to identify new approaches and new thinking [...] to ensure further casualty reductions are achieved."
Earlier in the month, the charity voiced its disappointment that despite an anti drink-driving campaign that took place over the festive period, an average of 200 arrests were made every day.
