Date: 22/7/2010
There has been a 20 per cent reduction in the number of uninsured drivers over the last four years, new figures have indicated.Chief Executive of the Motor Insurers' Bureau Ashton West said the findings show more convictions and seizures are being made to take those without cover off the road.
"We understand that times are tough and finances may be squeezed but motor insurance is a legal requirement," he added.
Mr West explained there are a number of ways in which motorists can cut costs while still remaining insured.
He advised individuals to take advanced driving lessons, ask for pay-as-you-drive policies and shop around for competitive quotes.
Barkerend in Bradford came out top in the list of uninsured hotspots, followed by West Gorton, Manchester and Handsworth in Birmingham.
Last week, West Midlands Police launched an operation to target uninsured drivers.
A crushed car will be on display to show people the potential consequences of getting behind the wheel without cover.
