Fiat cars produce 'lowest average emissions in Europe'

Date: 12/3/2012
Cars manufactured by Fiat Automobiles are among some of the greenest in Europe, it has been revealed. Its motors have recorded the lowest level of CO2 emissions by vehicles sold on the continent for the fifth year in a row.
In 2011, they produced an average of 118.2 g/km, which was 4.9 g/km less than the figure in 2010.
Furthermore, over the past five years, Fiat has reduced its emissions by 14 per cent, ensuring they are already considerably lower than the European Union's target of 130 g/km emissions by 2015.
To achieve this, the company has developed technology such as its turbo petrol engine the TwinAir and made use of alternative fuels like Methane/LPG.
It also introduced eco:Drive, which is an application that encourages responsible and environmentally-friendly driving practices.
Fiat is not the only manufacturer promoting low-carbon vehicles, as Peugeot is set to debut the 208 supermini at the EV & Low CO2 Fleet Show in April.
The van produces emissions of less than 99g/km and is available in three diesel engine types and one petrol.
