Firefighters launch safety campaign

Date: 26/4/2010

Firefighters from St Albans are taking part in a new campaign designed to encourage drivers to slow down while behind the wheel and to promote the use of seatbelts.

The region's local newspaper the Herts Advertiser confirmed the launch of the new Go Slow campaign, noting that stalls had been set up in the city centre displaying various photographs of road accidents to highlight the consequences of too much speed and not wearing a seatbelt.

Watch commander Paul Farrow told the paper: "We've had a lot of serious injuries and deaths in the last three years and the problem needs to be addressed."

Firefighters will also visit schools in the area to speak to sixth formers about how dangerous travelling in a car can be when going too fast or not wearing a seatbelt.

Earlier this month a new scheme to highlight the dangers of driving while distracted was launched by the fire service in Royston.
