The first stage of the M80 Stepps to Haggs project is now complete, Transport Scotland has stated. As part of the project to reduce traffic congestion along the M80, the new Mollinsburn Overbridge was built over the last two weekends.
The overbridge links Mollinsbum with Gartferry Road and crosses the M73.
Transport Scotland's director of major trunk road infrastructure Ainslie McLaughlin commented: "I congratulate the contractor on the successful operation to complete this significant milestone in the project, which was carried out with minimum traffic disruption on a road which carries 76,000 vehicles a day."
The M80 Stepps to Haggs scheme is to cost £320 million in total and is designed to improve safety for those who use this route.
It is also hoped the new system will cut journey times by 30 to 40 per cent.
The westbound launch of the Port Eglinton Viaduct was also completed this week, Transport Scotland notes.
