Five zero-emission buses set to service Oslo

Date: 17/2/2011
Oslo is to get a fleet of clean energy buses to service its public transport network.Ballard has revealed that it has entered into a contract that will see it providing the fuel cell modules for the five zero-emission hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.
The fleet will be operated by the HyNor Oslo Buss group, with the 43-foot vehicles set to be in regular service by the end of the year running on clean and locally-produced hydrogen.
Electrical energy from renewable sources will be used to generate hydrogen through the electrolysis of water, meaning the fleet will be reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 100 per cent.
Michael Goldstein, Ballard's Chief Commercial Officer, said: "This contract is a further sign of the growth potential that clean fuel cell power has in the larger global transit bus marketplace, as transit agencies implement environmental improvements."
Elsewhere, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders has welcomed the European Parliament's vote in favour of a 175g/km CO2 short term and 147g/km CO2 long term target for light commercial goods vehicles.
