Fleet managers 'should act on their safety considerations'

Fleet managers 'should act on their safety considerations'

Date: 14/7/2010

Safety is an important consideration for fleet managers, but many are not acting on their viewpoints, a new survey has indicated.

According to a report from eSafetyAware, just 28 per cent of respondents noted they look for a Euro NCAP rating when they buy vehicles.

Of those quizzed, 41 per cent said there was no need for safety equipment to be installed in their cars and vans and 43 per cent admitted their policies consider duty of care.

RoadSafe director Adrian Walsh stated those who make decisions on fleets tend to focus on driver behaviour, rather than the issue of purchasing vehicles that are safe.

"They must look out for those equipped with the latest technology, such as electronic stability control and those with the highest Euro NCAP ratings," he added.

Earlier this week, Mr Walsh observed research from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety found electronic stability control has helped to reduce collisions by 40 per cent.
