Ford boosts its electric vehicle plan

Date: 8/7/2010
Ford is set to boost its electric vehicles plan by taking part in the UK government's Ultra Low-Carbon Vehicle Demonstrator programme. The car manufacturer will be sending a number of zero-emission vehicles to Scottish and Southern Energy, which is supporting the initiative.
This means some of the firm's drivers will use the automobiles instead of their usual modes of transport as they carry out their day-to-day jobs across Hillingdon in London.
Joe Greenwell, Ford of Britain Chairman, said the interest for electric vehicles is on the up and the establishment is doing all it can to provide the marketplace with fuel-efficient models.
"Ford is looking forward to working with its project partners on developing this market for electric vehicles both in the UK and Europe," he added.
Last month, Mayor of London Boris Johnson suggested green modes of travel will be a common sight on the city's roads.
Transport for London has added four new electric Mitsubishi i-MEVs into its fleet and Mr Johnson emphasised his dedication to greener transport.
