Ford Ranger picks up five-star safety rating

Ford Ranger picks up five-star safety rating

Date: 27/2/2012

The Ford Ranger has received a five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP.

It is the only pick-up currently on sale to achieve this rating, which was graded using a newly-introduced scoring system.

The Ranger includes a number of specialist features, including an under-bonnet structure that reduces the chances of pedestrians suffering head injuries should they be involved in an accident.

Road Safety Minister Mike Penning welcomed the news, noting that "improvements in vehicle safety technology have contributed enormously to the reduction in casualties we have seen in recent years."

He added that as this area develops further, deaths and injuries associated with road accidents will continue to fall.

The Ford Focus also retained its five-star rating, as well as picking up two Euro NCAP Advanced Awards for passenger safety.

Ford was not the only manufacturer to perform well in the tests, as the Honda Civic - which includes a special Collision Mitigation Brake System - received the maximum five-star rating.
