Freezing fog 'causing hazardous driving conditions'

Freezing fog 'causing hazardous driving conditions'

Date: 7/12/2010

Severe weather conditions are continuing to cause problems on the road, with one company predicting today (December 7th) will see a record number of breakdowns.

Green Flag expects it to be the busiest Tuesday ever, with call volumes 50 per cent above the same day last week and 140 per cent higher than an average Tuesday.

Dan Robinson, Head of the firm, explained this is primarily down to a combination of freezing fog and remaining snow and ice.

"As well as the big thaw, the UK has been hit with freezing fog which is still causing hazardous driving conditions," he remarked.

Mr Robinson noted many people have taken to the roads once more this week to return to work and to do Christmas shopping, which will result in a number of cars not starting if they have not been driven for a week.

His comments follow those recently made by Director of RoadSafe Adrian Walsh, who observed a series of motoring organisations recommend fitting winter tyres to vehicles for the colder months.
