Freight sector 'should work with Westminster'

Freight sector 'should work with Westminster'

Date: 24/1/2011

Blockades are not the answer to tackling the UK's fuel tax, according to the Freight Transport Association (FTA).

Rather, the group has reminded employees from the sector that it is important the industry works with Westminster to tackle the problem.

The Fair Fuel UK Campaign has received thousands of signatures in support of scrapping the fuel tax rise in April and has also had the backing of both the FTA and the Road Haulage Association.

Theo de Pencier, of the FTA, said: "While blockades and direct action might grab a few headlines, they soon wear thin with the public. By working within Westminster this campaign hopes to exert real influence over the government's fuel tax policy."

He added that the role of the logistics sector was to keep the country running, rather than causing it to grind to a halt.

Columnist and television presenter Quentin Willson will present letters from the campaign to ministers tomorrow (January 25th).
