FTA releases guide to road transport law

Date: 11/1/2011
A guide to road transport legislation in the UK has been published by the Freight Transport Association (FTA), with the body claiming the publication is an "essential" resource for any transport office. It is hoped that operators will be kept fully aware of all the current aspects of road legislation, along with linked issues, such as health and safety.
Entitled the Yearbook of Road Transport Law 2011, the book contains information on conspicuity markings, details of how vehicle operators can get hold of a statement of Driver Certificate of Professional Competence periodic training from the Driving Standards Agency and an enhanced table of operator licensing exemptions.
There is also a revised chapter on mixed driving, incorporating both European and UK domestic drivers' hours rules.
A free yearbook will be delivered to all members of the FTA during January.
In the lead up to Christmas, some freight drivers saw a brief change in legislation, as the government temporarily relaxed the hours of EU drivers and working-time rules for hauliers directly responsible for delivery to UK food distribution centres and shops.
