FTA welcomes transport red tape cuts

Date: 23/12/2011
The government's decision to cut red tape within the transport sector has been welcomed by the Freight Transport Association (FTA).Transport Secretary Justine Greening recently announced 142 regulations are to be removed or improved.
As part of this, the law that requires motorists to hold a paper counterpart to their driving licence by 2015 will be scrapped, thus saving drivers money.
Discussing the decision, the FTA said it is good the coalition has decided to make some "notable and common sense changes."
Director of National and Regional Policy at the organisation Karen Dee continued: "From bells on bicycles to the length of dog leads permitted on certain roads, this package of measures is nothing if not comprehensive."
The group also believes the decision to remove regulations surrounding Statutory Off Road Notification is a positive one.
In particular, it noted companies operating large fleets of vehicles will benefit from this move.
