Fuel prices too high for UK drivers, study shows

Date: 21/3/2012
New research has revealed many British drivers are concerned about the high cost of motoring.Conducted by British Car Auctions (BCA), the study found a quarter of respondents would have to change their driving pattern if fuel went up to £1.40 per litre.
While 22 per cent claimed this would make them change their vehicle, ten per cent revealed they would alter their habits if petrol rose to £1.50 a litre.
Tim Naylor of BCA said: "Our research shows that motorists have several measures in mind to curtail their frontline motoring costs and top of the list is buying a car with better fuel consumption."
Some 39 per cent of motorists claimed if they were in charge of the UK's motoring strategy they would reduce fuel duty, while 22 per cent said they would establish a national fuel price.
At the beginning of the month, a survey carried out by Motorpoint revealed 80 per cent of road users are reducing the number of journeys they make due to the high price of petrol.
