Gateshead College gets approval for low-carbon transport centre

Gateshead College has been given the green light to develop a multi-million pound research and development centre focused on low-carbon transport technology.As The Journal reports, the International Centre for Low Carbon Vehicle Development will be based alongside the Nissan Sunderland site, with planners expecting the facility to open next year.
Zero Carbon Futures will manage the site, with businesses involved in research and training in the low-carbon vehicle industry set to move into the premises in order to develop new products.
Jo Morrissey, Programme Manager for the centre, said: "This growing sector has the potential to be a major industry for the region and our new centre will play a key part in developing the greener vehicles of the future."
Paul Watson, Leader of Sunderland City Council, added that the new facility will help to attract further investment in the city and boost jobs for local residents once it is completed.
