Glasgow's Dalmarnock station set to reopen

Glasgow's Dalmarnock station set to reopen

Date: 1/5/2013

Dalmarnock train station in Glasgow is scheduled to reopen on May 20th, almost a year after it was closed for a major refurbishment project.

The improvement works cost £11 million, and are designed to modernise the station in order to support the increase in visitors to the city when the Commonwealth Games arrive in 2014.

While the scheme was initially scheduled to be completed six months ago, the discovery of an old station buried under the existing site meant that the project had to be delayed.

A Spokesman for Transport Scotland explained that while work has reached a stage where the station can be reopened to passengers, further improvements will continue to be made in the run up to autumn.

"Dalmarnock station is absolutely key to the 2014 Commonwealth Games," he said. "We are delighted that everything is on schedule for the full refurbishment to be complete this autumn, well ahead of the games next summer."

The new-look station includes a fresh booking office, and an overhead bridge is set to be installed later this summer.
