Date: 11/4/2013
The (DfT) Department for Transport has given the green light to a £700,000 project which will see the junction between the A1 and A47 benefit from a major revamp. As the Peterborough Telegraph reports, the scheme will involve the introduction of a two-lane exit from the A1 on to the eastbound A47 in Wansford, with work being carried out as part of the Government's Pinch Point Programme.
North West Cambridgeshire MP Shailesh Vara welcomed the DfT's decision, explaining that the initiative will help to improve safety and tackle talkbacks at the junction.
"This is excellent news and I am delighted that the Government has been able to find the money to ease the congestion on this vital local route," he said.
A Spokesperson for the Highways Agency added that the project will help to combat traffic problems and create jobs, as well as facilitate the delivery of 3,000 homes by 2020.
Work is expected to be completed by early 2014.
