Government campaign offering free soft drinks to designated drivers

Date: 1/12/2010
Designated drivers will be offered free soft drinks in thousands of pubs across the country this month as part of the government's Christmas drink drive campaign.Road Safety Minister Mike Penning launched the THINK! scheme today (December 1st), which will also involve radio and poster adverts.
"Drivers should be in no doubt that if they get behind the wheel after drinking this Christmas, they risk losing their licence as well as facing a fine and even a prison sentence," said Mr Penning.
He added Christmas should be a time of celebration, not for spending nights in police cells, which is why the state has teamed up with Coca-Cola's Designated Driver campaign and over 8,000 participating venues to reward those who choose not to consume alcohol.
THINK! also collaborated with football teams such as Blackburn Rovers and Sunderland recently to help raise children's awareness of road safety issues through a series of after-school club and match day activities.
