Government's door to door strategy emphasises sustainable local transport

Date: 15/3/2013

The Government has unveiled its plans to increase the number of short journeys that people make using sustainable transport.

Labelled the door to door strategy, Transport Minister Norman Baker has claimed that it will help to ease congestion and create growth in the clean energy sector.

“We need low carbon travel to become as easy as jumping into the car,” he said.

“This strategy pulls together, for the first time, a whole range of different areas of work aimed at making sustainable transport a viable option for everybody.”

With an emphasis on improving knowledge of local travel options, the initiative will look to provide Brits with information on the various transport choices available to them when making their journeys.

It will also aim to deliver affordable tickets - as well as safe and comfortable facilities - as the Government sets about breaking down what it considers to be barriers that are standing in the way of an increased uptake of sustainable transport.
