Date: 14/12/2011
Local transport schemes up and down the UK are to receive a government investment of £854 million, it has been revealed.Transport Secretary Justine Greening made the announcement today (December 14th), adding 21 communities are set to benefit.
Some of the initiatives include the Coventry-Nuneaton rail upgrade, the Bath transportation package and the Luton town centre transport scheme.
The money is in addition to the £574 million that was allocated to 20 other transport schemes in the Autumn Statement at the end of November.
Ms Greening said: "We are investing in schemes that will provide better access to jobs and services, reduce congestion and enable more goods to move more easily around our country."
She added transport is central to the growth of the UK.
Earlier this month, Rail Minister Norman Baker revealed more than £37.5 million of government funding has been approved under a new Access for All Mid-Tier rail programme to upgrade the country's train stations.
