Govt committed to carbon reduction, says Nissan

Date: 19/1/2012
The government's extension of the plug-in car grant shows its commitment to reducing carbon emissions. This is according to Nissan, which commented on the Department for Transport's recent announcement that a plug-in van grant is to be introduced.
Managing Director at Nissan Motor UK James Wright said: "This grant, coupled with lower running costs and tax benefits, will make switching to an electric van a very attractive option for businesses."
He added the scheme proves the coalition is also serious about improving air quality in British cities.
Nissan is currently conducting tests on a prototype zero-emission all-electric delivery vehicle in London and establishing how it will cope with being driven around the capital on a daily basis.
Under the new plug-in van grant, those purchasing such vehicles will receive 20 per cent - or around £8,000 - of the cost of the motor and funding has been provided for the initiative until 2015.
