Govt dedicates £165m to tackling bottlenecks

Date: 3/6/2013
The (DfT) Department for Transport has revealed that £165 million will be ploughed into efforts to ease the strain placed on bottlenecks on the nation's roads.Forming part of the Government's Local Pinch Point Fund, the scheme will see a total of 72 different projects awarded with financial support to assist with the cost of upgrading roads and bridges - as well as fighting congestion.
Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin said that in addition to boosting transport infrastructure, the funding will help to create jobs and stimulate growth in areas that benefit from improvements.
"The schemes we have announced are designed to target key bottlenecks around the country, making life easier for the thousands of motorists and businesses who use the local road network every day," he explained.
Since the Local Pinch Point Fund was unveiled in December last year, a total of £300 million worth of investment has been dedicated to the programme when local contributions are factored in.
