Greater Manchester Electric Vehicle scheme set to launch

Date: 26/7/2013
The (GMEV) Greater Manchester Electric Vehicle scheme is set to go live in the north-west region, providing electric car drivers a network of locations to charge their vehicle.Organised by (TfGM) Transport for Greater Manchester, the infrastructure of 250 charging bays will be accessible across ten districts of the county from Sunday July 28th.
The locations of the 250 bays are far and wide, encompassing Bury, Bolton, Manchester city centre, Oldham, Salford and Stockport, to name a few.
GMEV will be operated by (CYC) Charge Your Car, who willl handle payments and access to the network, while TfGM will hold a launch event at the Intu Trafford Centre on the two days prior to it going live.
Visitors to the location can see a range of electric vehicles, including the Renault Zoe, and better understand how they work. Those who are really interested in buying one can even book a test drive in advance, or try their luck turning up on the day.
"It’s initiatives like the GMEV charging scheme that are bringing to life the Coalition Government’s ambition to put in place a comprehensive and effective national infrastructure," said Norman Baker, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Transport.
"This will enable ultra low emission drivers to make the journeys that they need to."
