Green travel scheme launched by Recyclebank

Green travel scheme launched by Recyclebank

Date: 13/7/2012

Green rewards scheme Recyclebank has launched a green travel giveaway this summer, complete with ten million of its reward points.

BusinessGreen reports that the points will be given away by Recyclebank to people who promise to make their London travel plans that bit greener over the course of the Olympic period.

The publication spoke to a representative of the organisation who said that people who take part in the scheme would receive rewards provided they take action to amend their plans during the Games.

This, in turn, would limit environmental damage while also helping to ease congestion in and around the capital during the event.

Those who wish to get involved can participate in a range of ways, including making travel pledges through Recyclebank's Facebook page.

Those interested are encouraged to commit to work from home, shop locally or use a bike to get to work. Visitors are able to make ten separate pledges with each pledge being awarded with ten Recyclebank reward points.

It reflects a great deal of the same principles as normal loyalty cards such as Nectar Cards but this adds a new dimension in that it promotes sustainable commuting and environmental awareness.

The company has also stated that a number of new businesses are on-board and keen to get involved with the project.

New partners who will accept the company's reward points include Origins Natural Skincare and Look Mum No Hands, who join up with the likes of Marks & Spencer, Cineworld, Haven Holidays, Lush and Champneys.

The move comes after Recyclebank launched an iPhone app in May which was designed to issue reward points for people who reduce the environmental impact of their travel by walking or cycling.

This instalment in the rewards scheme is the "latest step" in Recyclebank's plan to offer points for a range of green activities, according to BusinessGreen.
