Date: 27/4/2010
Motorists in Milton Keynes are being encouraged to drive low-emission vehicles. The council has signed an agreement with the Renault-Nissan Alliance that will see more than 400 charging points for electric cars created across the town.
Around 2,000 points will also be put in people's homes and free parking will be on offer along with free charging in a bid to increase the number of green motors on the town's roads.
The project is being funded by cash from the government's £30 million Plugged-in Places scheme.
Chief executive of the council David Hill said: "We have always been a pioneer for green technologies and initiatives and this agreement is yet another positive step for Milton Keynes as a showcase low-carbon city."
Meanwhile, three car manufacturers have recently met the EU targets to reduce carbon emissions and a study by Clean Green Cars revealed Toyota, Mini and Fiat reached the goal of 130 g/km of CO2.
