Greenock Bus Station upgrade to begin

Date: 12/10/2009
Greenock in Scotland is to get an upgrade on its current bus station.A contract worth £678,000 was awarded late last week to Luddon Construction and work will begin later this month.
Eight new bus stances, new shelters and better signage are all planned for the new Greenock Bus Station development.
Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) will own, operate and maintain the station.
Alistair Watson, chair councillor of the SPT, said: "The people of Greenock have put up with poor bus station facilities for far too long.
"Upgrading the town's bus station is an important element of SPT's Step Change for Buses Plan."
Mr Watson added that the SPT was "committed to driving up service standards for bus passengers".
The work is expected to take around 20 weeks to complete.
Inverclyde councillor David Wilson added that the work was "long overdue" and said that new buses operating in the region needed to have "a bus station to match".
Greenock is well served by public transport and has a large number of train stations including Bogston, Branchton, Greenock West and Fort Matilda.
