Half of Brits 'don't plan to drive this bank holiday'

Date: 27/5/2011

This late May bank holiday weekend (May 30th), more than half of vehicle owners have revealed they will leave their car at home rather than face the traffic.

According to the poll by Confused.com, 52 per cent of motorists will either stay local over the three days or use alternative means of transport to get around.

By doing this, drivers hope to avoid the congestion that traditionally occurs in the UK during such breaks.

However, the Highways Agency announced this week that it has either suspended or completed a total of 107 miles of road works over the bank holiday in order to ensure delays are kept to a minimum.

Between today and May 31st, 33 carriageway miles-worth of work will be put off in order to provide additional capacity for motorists, while traffic officers will also be patrolling in order to help sort out any incidents quickly that could cause a jam.
