Harlow MP named Road Safety Parliamentarian of the Month

Date: 17/4/2012
Harlow MP Robert Halfon has been commended for his road safety campaign. He fought to get a 50mph speed limit introduced on a three-mile sector of the Crooked Mile in Waltham Abbey and has been named Road Safety Parliamentarian of the Month by Brake and Direct Line as a result.
Mr Halfon repeatedly contacted councillor responsible for highways at Essex County Council Tracey Chapman to discuss improvements to the route.
As well as a lower speed limit, he also wants to see better signage and road markings on the Crooked Mile.
"There have been too many incidents on too many occasions and something needs to be done," Mr Halfan continued.
The council agreed to introduce a new 50mph limit on the three-mile stretch, although the MP claimed it must be rigorously enforced to ensure it is effective.
In March, Loughborough MP Nicky Morgan was named Road Safety Parliamentarian of the Month for her efforts to make travelling to school safer for youngsters.
