High-speed rail plans 'to be revealed'

Date: 8/3/2010
Plans for a high-speed rail network are to be revealed this week, according to a report.Among details to be unveiled include the exact route of the line between London and Birmingham, which could reduce travel time by train between the two cities to 47 minutes, the Daily Telegraph reports.
Also to be revealed are options on how the line could be extended into the north of England and Scotland, potentially reducing the travel time between London and Glasgow to two hours and 40 minutes.
The plans come after High Speed Two handed proposals to government late last year.
Transport secretary Lord Adonis has stated that 2010 will be "the year of the high-speed rail in the UK".
He has stated he would like Britain to have a network with trains traveling faster than any in Europe at present, according to the paper.
