Highways Agency will be involved in tyre safety activities

Date: 11/3/2011
The Highways Agency will continue to play a role in any future tyre safety activities, after being granted full-member status by campaign group TyreSafe. As a result, the Agency will be represented at the regular board meetings held by the road safety group, in order to help boost dialogue and collaboration between the two organisations.
TyreSafe notes that it has forged an increasingly close partnership with the body in raising awareness about the issues of tyre safety.
Chairman Stuart Jackson says: "By formalising our relationship, I am confident that this will help accelerate our activities, raise awareness levels even further and help to save even more lives."
Meanwhile, Stuart Lovatt, Road Safety Action Plan Coordinator at the Highways Agency, notes that the correct care and maintenance of tyres is "essential" and can help to reduce the risk of accidents or delays during motorists' journeys.
TyreSafe recently noted that damage can be caused to the wheels of cars if they scuff the kerb or run over debris and that it is important they are regularly checked.
