Highways Agency awards new vehicle contract

Highways Agency awards new vehicle contract

Date: 8/2/2010

The Highways Agency has announced it is to change the company that provides its fleet of vehicles.

The agency has awarded a contract to support services company VT Group.
Under the new contract, VT Group will provide and resupply approximately 207 vehicles on a contract hire basis.

These are to be specialist vehicles as traffic officers are required to carry a range of equipment to handle incidents such as accidents and helping motorists caught in adverse weather conditions.

It will also maintain and offer vehicle support services to the fleet used by the Highway Agency's traffic officer service.

The contract is worth up to £20 million.

The Highways Agency manages and improves England's motorways and trunk roads and is an executive agency of the Department for Transport.

The agency is currently working on a £1 million programme to clear overgrown vegetation on the A30 and A38 in Exeter, Launceston and surrounding areas.
