Highways Agency win campaign award

Highways Agency win campaign award

Date: 5/10/2009

A campaign to respect road workers and highlight the dangers of unsafe driving has won an award.

The Highways Agency, which developed the Respect Our Road Workers campaign, picked up the Prince Michael International Road Safety Award in recognition of its efforts to improve safety.

Ginny Clarke, chief highways engineer for the Highways Agency, said that they were "delighted" by the award.

"As a government agency we always strive to make our customers' journeys safer and more reliable, and to keep delays caused by roadworks to a minimum," she said.

"Roadworkers do a difficult job. This campaign encourages drivers to give [them] the respect and consideration they deserve for working in the environment they do."

The campaign involved the release of a DVD entitled Respect, which highlighted the consequences of unsafe driving practices.

The Highways Agency is responsible for a number of transport areas, including managing traffic and tackling congestion on English roads.
