Housewives 'more likely to exceed speed limits'

Date: 5/8/2010

Housewives tend to break speed limits more than other females, a survey has indicated.

According to a report from Women's car insurance provider Diamond, housewives are 11 per cent more likely to have a speeding conviction when compared to other ladies.

They also drive cars that are more expensive and have bigger engines than non-housewives.

The research revealed a Volkswagen Golf is at the top of a list of motors housewives would like to own.

Managing director of Diamond Sian Lewis said some of the findings were "startling".

"It seems that TV's Susan, Bree, Gabrielle and Lynette aren't the only housewives with a love of fast, expensive cars. The UK's housewives certainly seem to enjoy life in the fast lane as well," she added.

A recent study by Onepoll.com found a third of men do not feel safe if their wife or girlfriend is behind the wheel.

And the male respondents claimed ladies are often distracted by other motorists, kids and scenery when they are driving.
