How electric cars are 'changing the game'

How electric cars are 'changing the game'

Date: 21/2/2011

Vehicles which use technology to increase energy efficiency by around 50 per cent will make a big difference to the footprint caused by the transport industry, it has been said.

A new report entitled Changing The Game, produced by Accenture, has claimed that industry and government are investing in green technology more than ever, allowing consumers to completely alter how they power their cars.

It suggests that demand for oil will grow by one per cent each year until 2030, partly caused by the growth of the transport industry, which accounts for 60 per cent of all global emissions.

"In this context, plug-in electric vehicles which are estimated to be 40 to 65 per cent more efficient than conventional vehicles, have received significant attention," the report explains.

Delphi recently developed a warning system to alert pedestrians of oncoming hybrid and electric cars, which make much less noise than petrol alternatives.
