How lift-sharing can help firms achieve CSR goals

How lift-sharing can help firms achieve CSR goals

Date: 1/9/2011

By encouraging employees to share lifts with each other on the journey to and from the office, businesses can demonstrate that they are acting on the corporate social responsibility (CSR) targets they have set themselves.

Such is the opinion of Sacha Billett, Marketing Manager at liftshare, who says that this can form part of a green travel plan and shows that the company is taking steps to improve its sustainability.

And there are other benefits as well, with the commentator explaining: "One of the biggest [drivers] is reducing parking problems. Businesses expand - they move into nice new offices - but they find that the parking provision doesn't match the number of those driving to work everyday."

To date, the social enterprise has 450,000 members and it has been found that almost 300,000 of the journeys listed can be shared, which Ms Billett calculates could save 121,180 tonnes of carbon from being emitted annually.

TRL's software tool CarShare Online is available to organisations that wish to promote car sharing within their company and to encourage 'green travel'.

CarShare Online allows staff wishing to share journeys to contact others who live near to them who want to travel at a similar time of day. It works automatically by using the company's email system, ensuring security for those using the initiative.
