HS2 campaigners set to appeal against High Court decision

Date: 10/6/2013
Opponents of the HS2 project are set to appeal against a High Court ruling which rejected the majority of their challenges regarding the legality of the initiative.A number of groups will contest the Court's decision to dismiss the claim that the Government had failed to comply with environmental guidelines when devising plans for the scheme.
This challenge was initially thrown out - along with eight others - but campaigners are preparing to contest it again after securing the financial support necessary to do so.
But they will face strong opposition from the (DfT) Department for Transport, which says that the Government is determined to push ahead with the HS2 project and will continue to implement its strategy.
"The High Court was firm in dismissing these challenges and the Government will continue to defend any challenge in the Court of Appeal," a Spokesman for the DfT said.
"The Government remains committed to delivering HS2 as quickly as possible."
