Hundreds of drivers caught speeding in North Yorkshire

Date: 28/5/2010

North Yorkshire Police has revealed 365 drivers were caught speeding in April.

Members of the force took part in a Europe-wide speed control operation and 665,000 motorists were detected in the scheme, which was organised by the European Traffic Police Network (Tispol).

Tispol was created to reduce casualties and deaths on European roads as well as bring together forces across the continent to coordinate campaigns.

Inspector Dave Brown from North Yorkshire Police's Strategic Roads Policing Unit said the project sends a clear message to road users in the UK, with the aim being to make roads safer along with saving lives.

He remarked: "It's staggering that despite widespread publicity of the dangers of speeding, people continue to break the law and put lives in danger."

Inspector Brown added the force will carry on with its bid to crack down on those who are arrogant enough to think they do not have to follow the law.
