'Hundreds of London firms' sign up for Games advice

Date: 11/10/2011
More businesses are signing up to get travel advice ahead of the 2012 Olympic Games in order to prepare for the event.Transport for London (TfL) reveals that between them, the firms are responsible for employing some half a million people and each of these, numbering almost 400, will now receive bespoke travel recommendations.
On top of this, hundreds more organisations are attending the dedicated workshops that have been set up to help shops and businesses in the capital make the most of the opportunities the Games will afford.
Peter Hendy, the city's Transport Commissioner, released the figures ahead of his meeting at London Assembly's Transport Committee.
Here he spoke of the work that has been put in by TfL and all of the partners involved in the organisation of the Olympics to ensure that the capital keeps on moving and that all athletes are transported to events on time.
These partners are confident that they will be able to deliver the necessary reductions in transport demand at set times and in certain locations ahead of next summer's event.
"No two days will be the same during the London 2012 Games and we need London's borough councils to work together - and with us - to ensure we host a great Games and keep our city moving next summer," Mr Hendy claimed.
Jonathon Porritt, London 2012 Sustainability Ambassador and Chairman of the BP Target Neutral Advisory and Assurance Panel, recently urged anyone planning to attend the Olympics to attempt to offset the carbon emissions they will produce travelling to the event.
