Hundreds of motorists caught out by safety campaign

A Nottinghamshire road safety campaign has caught a "disappointing" number of people committing driving offences.The police operation, which aimed to remind people to take care during reduced daylight hours and wet weather conditions, convicted 201 motorists of a number of wrongdoings between October 16th and 25th, including speeding, not wearing a seatbelt and using a mobile phone while driving.
Chief Inspector Andy Charlton, Nottinghamshire's Head of Roads Policing, said: "The figures are very disappointing and show motorists are not heeding the warnings and learning the lessons."
"Roads can be hazardous at any time of the year," he continued, but warned drivers autumn and winter bring additional risks, as there are fewer daylight hours and rain, fog and ice are more common.
Road Safety Minister Mike Penning recently highlighted the importance of children being visible on the roads over the coming months now the clocks have gone back by one hour.
