Huntingdonshire will have to 'compete' for transport funding

Date: 27/2/2013
Huntingdonshire will need to compete with the rest of Cambridgeshire, Peterborough and Rutland if it is to secure funding for major transport schemes, the Hunts Post reports. While the Department for Transport has said that £21 million will available to the three areas between 2015 and 2019, it will be up to the relevant authorities to determine how this is allocated.
But with Huntingdonshire set to be represented in a new (LTB) Local Transport Body - formed of three Cambridgeshire councillors, two from Peterborough and one from Rutland - Councillor Ian Bates highlighted the benefit of having local Councillors make decisions regarding the funding.
"The real message is that it's coming down to a more local level and will be in the hands of councillors who know the local area," he said.
"They will be able to make the right decision for those areas."
The new LTB will be expected to consider growth prospects across the region and prioritise the most important projects.
