Impact of serious road accidents 'is far-reaching'

Date: 26/8/2010
The effects of serious road collisions reach further than those directly involved, it has been suggested.PC Raymond Neil of Grampian Police's road safety unit was speaking ahead of an event to be held in memory of a teenager killed in a crash, according to STV News.
The family of Euan Cowie raised £1,500 at his funeral, which they have donated to the police road safety department.
Mr Neil encouraged as many people as possible from the local community to attend the Young Driver Road Show on September 9th.
"The impact of serious and fatal road traffic collisions extends far beyond those involved in the collision itself and it's important that we reach as many people as possible with our message," he said.
Mr Neil added it is important people in their early 20s realise they also fall into the category of young drivers, which has high accident statistics.
Earlier this month, a mother who lost her son in a car incident urged youngsters to have the courage to get out of a vehicle if they do not feel it is being driven safely, according to the BBC.
