Improvements completed at Bolton train station

Date: 24/11/2011
Changes have been made to Bolton train station in a bid to improve services on what is a key route in the north-west.Transport for Greater Manchester provided £950,000 of funding for the project, which included the introduction of new information screens, upgraded lighting and CCTV.
The footbridge and waiting rooms were refurbished, while a new canopy was erected to fill a gap formed when the station entrance changed 20 years ago.
"Now passengers will have the facilities they have come to expect from a major commuter station on a key route into a city centre," Route Managing Director for London North Western at Network Rail Jo Kaye said.
She added increasing numbers of people are electing to travel by rail and the upgrades will make it an even more attractive prospect.
Earlier this month, Network Rail announced it will be working to improve 100 train stations across Wales over the next five years, in addition to introducing a new route.
