Insufficient treads 'lead to more winter driving accidents'

Insufficient treads 'lead to more winter driving accidents'

Date: 21/11/2011

Motorists could be at an increased risk of having an accident during the winter because their tyres are not suitable for travelling in adverse weather conditions.

James Carnduff from insurance provider Admiral explained some motorists do not have sufficient tread on their tyres to travel along potentially dangerous roads safely.

Similarly, many people do not have their tyres pumped up correctly, which can lead to an increase in the number of accidents that occur when the weather turns colder.

"Drivers need to make sure they are as aware as they possibly can be," Mr Carnduff continued.

He also suggested road users do not pay enough attention to pedestrians when it gets dark, which means more incidents happen in winter.

Diamond Advanced Motorists also discussed the importance of being extra vigilant on the roads during the colder months, telling drivers to prepare for their journey by checking their tyres and ensuring lights work properly.
